Point Reyes Station Volunteers Pitch In

By Kurk Schroeder, Park Ranger
Three members of the Pt. Reyes Station community recently made a huge difference in the cleanliness of a local creek by organizing a two day creek cleanup to remove dozens of plastic bottles and other bulky trash items from a secluded and abused section of otherwise healthy riparian habitat.
Local resident Mary Morgan spearheaded the effort and joined forces with local friends Jan Langdon and Susan Prince. Together they reached out to other concerned local citizens and contacted Marin County Parks for support. Through their efforts, 75 one and two liter plastic bottles, a number of soda cans, broken plastic bags, a soaked leather shoe, and a broken Cal Trans barricade, among other items, were removed from the creek. The creek was returned to its brilliant natural state and the Pt. Reyes Station community can celebrate!
Community driven clean-up efforts such as this one are vital to the preservation of our lands and waterways. A great thank you is due to the West Marin creek stewards responsible for the promotion and facilitation of this clean-up!
